Polio detected in samples from seven districts

Health authorities in Pakistan have been actively conducting surveillance for the poliovirus by collecting sewage samples from nine different districts. Recent tests have shown that seven of these districts, including Gwadar, Quetta, South Waziristan, Rawalpindi, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas, have tested positive for poliovirus type 1. However, samples from Pishin and Lahore have been declared polio-free.

During three national polio campaigns, a total of 45 million children were vaccinated. More than 400,000 polio workers, with 225,000 of them being women, have been actively involved in this vaccination effort.
