Brisbane's mayor has expressed deep concern over the assault on a bus driver in South Brisbane, prompting a police investigation into the incident. The attack, captured in a video posted on a community Facebook page, shows the driver attempting to remove a passenger from the bus for allegedly not paying the fare. The passenger responds by repeatedly punching the driver, causing harm to his shoulder and arm, and later hitting him in the head.
The assault took place around 6pm on a Friday, but was reported to the police the following day. Queensland Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway and are encouraging anyone with information to come forward.
Mayor Adrian Schrinner condemned the attack, stating that such behavior is unacceptable and has no place in the city. He expressed solidarity with the bus driver, emphasizing that no one should face violence at work, especially from an individual whose actions jeopardize the safety of others on board. Schrinner highlighted the safety measures in place for bus drivers but stressed the importance of standing against crime to ensure community safety.
