Multiple B-2 stealth bombers were reportedly heading to Guam on Saturday, as confirmed by two sources familiar with their movements. As of now, these aircraft do not have any further orders beyond that, according to the sources.
These developments come amidst escalating tensions between Iran and the West over Iran's nuclear program, while the Trump administration is considering its options. President Trump has been in several meetings with national security advisors and is expected to make a decision within the next two weeks. Another Situation Room meeting is scheduled for later Saturday evening.
The B-2 stealth bombers could potentially remain stationed at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam for an extended period, although the duration is currently uncertain. It is important to note that the relocation of these aircraft does not signify a final decision.
In addition to the bombers, eight refueling tankers departed from Oklahoma just before midnight on Friday, flying over several states before returning to the same base. Speculation has been mounting regarding the possible use of the 30,000-pound Massive Ordnance Penetrator to target Iran's deep underground uranium enrichment facility in Fordrow.
The B-2 Stealth Bomber is the sole U.S. Air Force bomber capable of carrying the MOP on bombing missions, with each bomber having the capacity to carry two bombs. There has been speculation about the potential launch of B-2 bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri for a nonstop flight to Iran, necessitating multiple mid-air refuelings.
Diego Garcia, a small British island in the Indian Ocean, has also been under scrutiny as it would offer a much shorter flight distance for B-2 bombers to reach Iran. In April, six B-2 bombers were deployed to the island as part of an ongoing air campaign against Houthi militants in Yemen, who have been targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea region.
While the bombers conducted airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, their deployment also served as a strategic message to Iran during a period of heightened tensions between the two countries.
