A plastic surgeon has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 22 years for attempting to murder a colleague he had a grudge against. Jonathan Peter Brooks, 61, broke into the home of Graeme Perks in Nottinghamshire, doused the floor with petrol, and stabbed him in the abdomen.
Brooks, who specialized in treating burn scars, carried out the attack in January 2021. He was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder, attempted arson, and possession of a bladed article after a trial at Leicester crown court.
Despite claiming self-defense, the judge ruled that Brooks was the sole aggressor in the incident. Perks, who was a witness in a disciplinary hearing against Brooks, suffered life-threatening injuries during the attack.
Perks described the attack as a nightmare for his family, emphasizing the impact it had on his wife and son. Brooks, who showed no remorse for his actions, had a history of manipulative behavior and hunger strikes during legal proceedings.
