Upcoming Changes to Leap Card Bus Fares for Dublin Commuters

Leap Card fares for Dublin commuter buses will change from 16 June with the introduction of a new zonal pricing system.

Starting next Monday, Dublin's commuter bus services will implement revised fares under a new Leap zonal fare system. This new system aims to make fares more equitable and easy-to-understand by basing prices on the straight-line distance between the start and end points of journeys. The changes follow similar updates to rail fares introduced in April.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has divided the Leap area into four zones, each with different fares applied. In Zone 1, where bus passengers were already using Leap Cards, the 90-minute fare will remain unchanged at €2 for adults, €1 for young adults and students, and €0.65 for Child Leap Cards. For Dublin commuter bus services in Zone 1, the fare will be €2.40 for adults and €1.20 for young adults, students, and children using Leap Cards.

Zone 2 will cover areas such as Gormanston, Skerries, Kilcock, Sallins & Naas, Greystones, and Kilcoole. The fare for a bus to Dublin for adults will be €3.70, and €1.85 for students, young adults, and children. Drogheda, Enfield, Newbridge, and Wicklow Town will be part of Zone 3, with adults paying €5.30 for a bus to the city center, and students, young adults, and children paying €2.65. Zone 4, the farthest from the city center, will include areas like Kildare Town and Rathdrum, with fares of €6.30 for adults and €3.15 for students, young adults, and children.

Bus Éireann and Go-Ahead Ireland services will also see changes in fares from 16 June in line with the new Leap Card fees. Some fares will increase, some will decrease, and others will remain similar. Single journey fares have been updated, with Leap Card users receiving the best prices compared to cash payments, according to the National Transport Authority.

New daily, weekly, and monthly Leap Card products will be introduced, covering travel between zones and within central Dublin on TFI rail, Luas, and city buses. The weekly cap for travel in all four zones for an Adult Leap Card will be €67.20.
