A man has recently returned a Jinro toad statue that he stole from a restaurant in Tanjong Pagar, after CCTV footage captured the incident. The man, wearing a white cap, was seen taking the large statue while walking past the restaurant with a woman. The statue is the iconic mascot of the Korean soju brand, Jinro.
He casually picked up the statue and walked away, with a woman, believed to be his friend, playfully hitting him after the theft. The incident occurred outside a Korean restaurant in Tanjong Pagar around 1.19 am on Sunday, June 8. The stolen statue, named 'Ippeun-i', was a rare promotional gift from Jinro, valued at around $500.
The restaurant owner noticed the missing statue the next morning and promptly filed a police report. However, the man later returned the statue to the restaurant, claiming that he gave it to a couple for their child. He expressed regret for his actions and offered compensation for any losses incurred.
The Yeyak Korean Restaurant, where the theft occurred, thanked the community and netizens for their support in recovering the stolen statue. The police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing following the lodged report.
