Upon arrival at New Mangalore Port, the Indian Navy vessel INS Surat brought in 18 crew members rescued from the fire-struck Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503 on June 9. Among the crew members, six were injured, with two in critical condition and four with minor injuries, as reported by the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate.
Out of the total 22 crew members, unfortunately, four are still missing at sea. The critically injured individuals have been identified as Lu Yanli and Sonitur Haeni, while those with minor injuries include Xu Fabao, Guo Linino, Thein Than Htay, and Kyi Zaw Htoo. They have been taken to a private hospital for treatment, while the rest of the crew members have been provided accommodation in a hotel.
The names of the crew members who were rescued and those who are missing at sea have been released. The container ship was en route from Colombo to Mumbai when the fire broke out approximately 78 nautical miles off the Beypore coast in Kerala.
The prompt response from the Indian Navy led to the successful rescue of 18 crew members, comprising eight Chinese, four Taiwanese, four Myanmar nationals, and two Indonesians. The port and police authorities ensured that all necessary assistance was provided to the injured individuals for immediate medical care.
