Russia conducted another significant drone attack on Ukraine, targeting Kyiv and causing damage to a maternity ward in Odesa, according to regional officials on Tuesday.
These overnight strikes come after Russia's largest drone attack on Ukraine the day before, as part of escalated operations in response to alleged provocations by Kyiv.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to four districts in Kyiv in the early hours of Tuesday, including the historic Podil neighborhood, as reported by Mayor Vitali Klitschko on the Telegram messaging app.
The military confirmed that the attacks were ongoing and advised residents to seek shelter. The extent of the damage was not immediately known.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's military administration, stated on Telegram that enemy drones were attacking multiple districts simultaneously, causing damage to residential buildings and starting fires. Rescue teams were deployed to the affected areas.
Residents in Kyiv reported hearing a series of loud explosions throughout the city, according to witnesses from Reuters.
In Odesa, a large drone attack targeted an emergency medical facility, a maternity ward, and residential buildings, as per Oleh Kiper, the governor of the wider Odesa region, who shared updates on Telegram.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported at the maternity hospital, as patients and staff were safely evacuated. Images shared by Kiper showed broken windows at a medical facility and damage to the facades of various buildings.
Both Russia and Ukraine have denied intentionally targeting civilians in the conflict that began over three years ago. However, thousands of civilians, primarily Ukrainians, have lost their lives in the ongoing war.
