Anyone who has a fear of performing or speaking in public will know the familiar feeling of palms sweating, heart racing, and legs turning to jelly. Even celebrities aren’t immune to performance anxiety, or ‘stage fright.’ When American actress Rachel Sennott was asked on the Oscars red carpet how she prepares for such a big event, she said she takes a beta blocker, and quipped, “numb is in!”

Beta blockers are a hot topic of conversation lately, especially when it comes to managing anxiety. They are often used to treat the physical symptoms of anxiety rather than addressing its underlying causes. It is important to note that beta blockers should only be taken under the supervision of a doctor and may be a short-term solution for some individuals.

One of the key benefits of beta blockers is their ability to manage the cardiovascular effects of anxiety. This can be particularly helpful for individuals who experience symptoms such as sweating, rapid heartbeat, and trembling when faced with stressful situations.

Performance anxiety is a common issue, even among celebrities. Actress Rachel Sennott, for example, mentioned taking a beta blocker to help her cope with the pressures of events like the Oscars. While beta blockers can help alleviate the physical symptoms of anxiety, they do not address the root causes of the condition.
