NatWest has announced the closure of several branches in Leicestershire as part of their ongoing changes to high street banking. The decision comes as the bank sees a shift towards digital banking services, with a majority of customers now using online platforms for their banking needs.
Local leaders have expressed concerns about the impact of these closures on residents and businesses in the area. The affected branches include Leicester Melton Road, Hinckley's The Borough, Oadby's The Parade, Melton's High Street, and Ashby's Market Street.
In a letter to Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, NatWest explained that the closures are part of their strategy to adapt to changing customer needs. Factors such as customer impact, financial vulnerability, nearest available branches, and transport links were considered before finalizing the decision.
Councillor Stuart Bray expressed disappointment over the closure of the Hinckley branch, highlighting the negative impact on local employment and the community. NatWest, however, stated that they carefully evaluate each branch closure to ensure a sustainable network for the future.
The Leicestershire NatWest branches set to close this year include:
- Ashby, 54 Market Street, LE65 1BB - Thursday, September 18
- Hinckley, 13 The Borough, LE10 1NL - Wednesday, September 17
