Award-winning journalist Jacob Greber has been announced as the new political editor for 7.30, replacing Laura Tingle at the ABC's nightly current affairs flagship.
Greber, the ABC's chief digital political correspondent, brings almost 30 years of experience covering economics, politics, and world affairs to his new role. He expressed excitement about joining the 7.30 team led by Sarah Ferguson, emphasizing the audience's need for clarity and insight into governance and national challenges.
During Thursday night's program, Sarah Ferguson revealed the news of Greber's appointment to viewers, praising his journalistic prowess and dedication.
Greber will maintain his regular contributions to the ABC News website and app, as well as appearances on the Politics Now podcast and the weekly program Insiders.
From Copy Boy to Political Editor
Greber's journalism journey began as a copyboy in the Canberra press gallery before covering Queensland state politics for The Courier-Mail. He later worked in Switzerland, covering the European economy and global banks, before returning to Australia to join the Australian Financial Review.
In 2018, Greber served as the US correspondent in Washington DC before becoming a senior political correspondent upon his return to Australia in 2024. He joined the ABC in the same year.
ABC's Director of News, Justin Stevens, expressed his excitement about Greber's appointment, highlighting his recent outstanding performance during the election campaign. Stevens praised Greber's addition to the 7.30 team, emphasizing the program's importance as a flagship for ABC News.
Greber will officially assume his new role on July 7, taking over from Laura Tingle, who will transition to the role of Global Affairs Editor at the ABC in early July.
