A suspect in his 60s has been arrested in Dublin in connection with the murder of Annie McCarrick, an American woman who disappeared over three decades ago.
The man was taken into custody by detectives from Irishtown this morning on suspicion of murder and is being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act for up to 24 hours.
Authorities are currently searching a residence in Clondalkin, west Dublin as part of the ongoing investigation, where both the house and garden will undergo technical and forensic examinations.
Annie McCarrick, originally from New York, visited Ireland as a teenager and later moved to the country permanently in 1993, residing in Dublin.
She was last seen on CCTV footage near Sandymount Road in March 1993, sparking a missing persons inquiry that was later upgraded to a murder investigation.
The case is being led by the Dublin South Central Serious Crime Unit with support from the National Serious Crime Review Team, and this recent arrest marks the first significant development in the long-standing case.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation, emphasizing the importance of even seemingly insignificant details.
For those who wish to provide information, they can contact the investigation team at Irishtown Garda Station or call the Garda Confidential Line.
