Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo emphasized that the struggle for independence is no longer solely against foreign powers but also against internal adversaries such as corruption, indifference, and abuse. Speaking in Filipino during the 127th Independence Day celebration in Kawit, Cavite, Gesmundo highlighted the need for public servants to address the reforms that are still necessary.
He stressed that true freedom entails accountability to the people and called on Filipinos to embody the values of national heroes by assisting those in need and bravely facing domestic challenges. Gesmundo reiterated that independence should not be taken for granted but should be continuously strengthened through daily actions.
He encouraged the celebration of freedom through active participation, passing on the principles of patriotism, selflessness, and perseverance to future generations for the betterment of the nation.
