Man in his 60s detained and house in Clondalkin searched in connection with 1993 murder

A man in his 60s has been detained and a house in Clondalkin has been searched in connection with the 1993 murder of American woman Annie McCarrick. The arrest follows recent developments in the investigation, with Gardaí deciding to take action based on new information received.

Ms. McCarrick disappeared from south Dublin in March 1993, and her case was upgraded to a murder investigation two years ago. The suspect, who was known to her, has been arrested on suspicion of her murder. He has accumulated significant wealth and was taken into custody by the Dublin south central division’s serious crime unit.

The house in Clondalkin, where the search was conducted, is believed to have a connection to the suspect and Ms. McCarrick. The current owners of the property are not under suspicion of any wrongdoing. The arrest marks the first in the 32-year inquiry, signifying a significant development in the case.

It was reported that Ms. McCarrick confided in friends about a man she had relations with in Dublin who had struck her in a drunken state. Detectives suspect that foul play occurred in the area around her flat in Sandymount, Dublin, and that her body was disposed of to conceal the crime.

The investigation has shifted focus from reported sightings of Ms. McCarrick in Enniskerry and Glencullen to the events that may have transpired in Sandymount. The recent arrest and house search are the latest in a series of developments in the long-standing investigation into the tragic murder of Annie McCarrick.
