Company aims to more than double its broadband business by 2034 as it upgrades network

VodafoneThree, the newly established leader in the UK's mobile market, is setting ambitious goals to more than double its broadband business by 2034. The company has pledged to create thousands of jobs and upgrade its network as part of this initiative.

Vodafone has experienced rapid growth in its home broadband services since diversifying beyond mobile offerings in 2015. The company aims to increase its customer base from 2 million to over 4 million within the next eight years.

VodafoneThree has formed partnerships with CityFibre, Openreach, and London-focused Community Fibre to better target its services to customers. The merger of Vodafone's UK arm with Three has created a business with 27 million customers, committing to invest £11bn over the next decade to introduce next-generation 5G services across the UK.

The company plans to consolidate its almost 650 stores located on high streets and in shopping centers while creating around 400 customer service jobs that were previously outsourced overseas. Despite the closure of some stores in close proximity due to overlap, VodafoneThree's CEO, Max Taylor, assured that there would be no redundancies.

VodafoneThree is not considering expanding its customer base through the acquisition of TalkTalk, a struggling rival telecoms and broadband company. The focus remains on integrating Three UK and investing in extending 5G mobile coverage across the UK.

The merger, valued at £16.5bn, aims to provide more than 99% of the UK with 5G coverage by 2034. The company plans to invest £11bn over the next decade, with the first £1.3bn earmarked for this year. During the build period, an average of 9,000 jobs will be created annually, with up to 13,000 jobs expected in peak investment years.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves expressed her excitement about the significant investment in mobile phone network infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of better connecting people with their families, loved ones, and work through enhanced 5G coverage.
