Elderly Couple Attacked and Threatened in Home Burglary in South Dublin

The incident happened at Shanganagh Cliffs, Shankill at 7.30pm on Wednesday

Four individuals have been taken into custody following an incident where a couple in their 60s were assaulted and threatened with a firearm at their residence in Shankill on Wednesday evening.

The unsettling event occurred around 7:30 pm when four men entered the home located at Shanganagh Cliffs in Shankill.

After the perpetrators fled the scene in a vehicle and an electric bike, authorities were promptly notified.

According to the Gardaí, the homeowner, a man in his 60s, was transported to St Vincent’s University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Upon receiving the report, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the situation and conducted a thorough search of the vicinity with the assistance of Shankill Garda station personnel. Three suspects were apprehended after halting a vehicle, while a fourth suspect, who was riding an electric bike, was arrested shortly thereafter.

During the search operation, a semi-automatic firearm was recovered from the area.

All four individuals, including one individual in his 60s, one in his 20s, and two juveniles, are currently being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at Garda stations in Dublin as investigations continue.
