The M62 is facing a prolonged closure following a lorry crash that resulted in severe delays. Emergency services responded to the incident on the A49, Winwick Road in Warrington early on Friday morning. The lorry collided with railings on a bridge over the M62, leading to a significant diesel spill on the carriageway. National Highways are currently working to clear the spill.
Cheshire Police has stated that the closure is anticipated to last for several hours, urging motorists to avoid the area. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries. Traffic management system Inrix has reported heavy congestion on the motorway, with delays extending to junction 7 eastbound and junction 10 westbound. A diversion route has been established via exit and entry sliproads.
Drivers on the eastbound M62 and southbound A49 are experiencing delays of up to 45 minutes due to the inability to navigate the roundabout at Winnick. They are advised to proceed east and turn around at junction 11, Birchwood. For live updates on this incident, you can follow our dedicated blog.
