This comes as specialist officers continue to search a property in Clondalkin, west Dublin, where the suspect once stayed

A man in his 60s who was arrested on suspicion of the murder of Annie McCarrick has been released without charge. He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 on Thursday morning. Specialist officers are continuing to search a property in Clondalkin, west Dublin, where the suspect once stayed. The searches, supported by a cadaver dog from an external agency, will continue over the weekend.

Gardaí had a significant amount of information and evidence to present to the man, including issues related to past alibis he gave during the missing person's case. The case was upgraded to a murder investigation two years ago, focusing on two men. The search of the house in Clondalkin was based on new information received by gardaí.

The suspect is the first man arrested in connection with the disappearance and murder of Annie McCarrick on March 26, 1993. She was last seen in Sandymount, southeast Dublin, by her flatmates and reported missing two days later by a friend. Gardaí have emphasized that the current occupants of the home have no connection to the case.
