The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) expressed serious concern over the rising tensions in the Middle East region following Israel's airstrikes on Iran. The Philippines has urged all involved countries to work towards de-escalation and peace.
Israel confirmed that it conducted airstrikes on Iran, leading to explosions in Tehran. This comes as tensions escalate over US attempts to persuade Iran to cease material production for nuclear weapons. Israel has declared a state of emergency in preparation for potential missile and drone attacks from Tehran.
Iran has labeled Israel's airstrikes on its military and nuclear sites as a 'declaration of war' and has called on the UN Security Council to take action.
The DFA emphasized the importance of the well-being of individuals in the Middle East, including Filipinos residing there, and urged all concerned nations to prioritize de-escalation and peace efforts.
As of now, there have been no reports of any Filipinos being harmed. The Philippine embassies in the region are on standby to assist Filipinos. The DFA has not received any reports of Filipinos being injured or impacted by the operations.
The Philippine Embassy in Israel has advised Filipinos to stay safe at home following the IDF Home Front Command's announcement of Israel being under essential activity status from June 13 at 3 a.m. until June 14 at 8 p.m. Under this status, classes are canceled, gatherings are prohibited, and non-essential work is suspended, except for essential service providers.
Filipinos in Israel with urgent concerns are encouraged to contact the embassy's emergency hotline at +972 54-4661188.
