The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) of the Philippine government has expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in the Middle East following Israel's direct attack on Iran.

Israel conducted extensive air strikes targeting nuclear facilities and eliminating top Iranian military officials in an operation that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated could continue for an extended period.

Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza emphasized the importance of deescalation and the pursuit of peace, especially for the well-being of the people in the Middle East and Filipino citizens in the region.

The Philippine Embassies in the affected areas are on standby to provide assistance to Filipinos residing there.

As of now, there have been no reports of any Filipino nationals being harmed, injured, or impacted by the recent events.

Following the attack, the Philippine Embassies in Iran, Israel, and Iraq have issued new advisories advising Filipinos to avoid crowded places and maintain a high level of vigilance.

According to the latest data from the DFA, there are approximately 30,742 Filipinos in Israel, 1,598 in Iraq, and at least 1,180 in Iran, with many of them being married to Iranian citizens.

Israel has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of potential retaliation from Iran.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has vowed severe consequences for the attack, warning that Israel has set itself on a path of suffering and will face the consequences.

Prior to the airstrikes, Iran had issued a bold statement indicating its readiness to target US military installations within its range if provoked.

The United States, with a significant military presence in the region, including bases in Iraq, has distanced itself from Israel's actions and cautioned Iran against targeting American interests or personnel.

The US was scheduled to engage in further nuclear discussions with Iran in Oman on June 15.
