Sunjay Kapur, the ex-husband of Karisma Kapoor and Indian-born billionaire, passed away in London after reportedly suffering a heart attack. Kapur, a US citizen, joined the ranks of the World’s Billionaires in 2022 with a net worth of $1.2 billion ( ₹10,300 crore) according to Forbes.

Reports indicate that the 53-year-old billionaire accidentally swallowed a bee during a polo match in England, possibly leading to the heart attack.

Sunjay Kapur served as the chairman of Sona Comstar, an auto components manufacturer based in Gurugram, India. The company has 12 manufacturing facilities and employs over 5,000 people across India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the US. With the rising demand for electric vehicles globally, Sona Comstar reported a 12% increase in revenue, reaching 35.5 billion rupees ($412 million) for the financial year ending March 2025. Approximately 36% of this revenue came from EV components, as reported by Forbes.

Entry into the Automotive Industry

Sunjay Kapur, who held a business degree from the University of Buckingham, took over leadership of Sona Comstar in 2015 following the passing of his father, Surinder Kapur, who founded the company in 1995. Under Sunjay Kapur's guidance, the family business transformed into a global auto parts manufacturer. The name 'Sona,' meaning 'gold' in Hindi, was inspired by his grandfather's jewelry business, as per Forbes.
