Apple has set a target to release the much-anticipated Siri AI update by Spring 2026, as reported by Bloomberg. This move is part of the company's ongoing efforts to improve its artificial intelligence capabilities.
The Siri team at Apple is working towards introducing the updated voice assistant with the iOS 26.4 software update. The upcoming enhancements will allow Siri to utilize users' personal information and on-screen activities to provide more personalized responses.
Typically, Apple's .4 updates, known as 'E' internally, are scheduled for March release. This pattern has been followed for iOS 18.4 this year and iOS 17.4 in 2024. However, an exact release date for the Siri update has not been confirmed yet, with sources indicating a spring launch without specifying a specific date due to the project's confidential nature.
Apple has stated that it has not outlined a specific timeline for the new Siri features but expects them to be rolled out in the 'coming year'. The schedule is subject to change depending on any unforeseen challenges. If development progresses smoothly in the coming weeks, Apple may consider showcasing the updated Siri during the fall iPhone launch event, although no final decisions have been made.
Earlier reports suggested that Apple's planned Siri update was delayed until 2027. The company aims to enhance Siri with iOS 19 in 2026, but a fully competitive AI system may not be operational until 2027 or later.
During WWDC 2025, Apple unveiled a range of updates to its Apple Intelligence suite, including new features that will be available with iOS 26. These features, such as integrated live translation for messages, FaceTime, and phone applications, are expected to be accessible on compatible iPhone models later this year.
Bloomberg previously reported ongoing discussions within Apple about the extent of AI capabilities that should be developed in-house versus outsourced to partners like OpenAI. Additionally, the company has been considering acquiring smaller startups focused on AI technologies.
