India head coach Gautam Gambhir had to cut short his trip to England due to a family emergency, as confirmed by a BCCI source. He had to rush back to attend to his mother, who is hospitalized in New Delhi. The Indian Test squad, led by Shubman Gill, is currently in the UK for a five-match series against England starting on June 20 in Leeds.
The source mentioned that Gambhir had to return to India for a family emergency. In his absence, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate will be in charge of the team during the upcoming intra-squad match between India and India A. He will be supported by the bowling coach Morne Morkel and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak.
If all goes well at home, Gambhir is expected to rejoin the team in England within a week.
