The aviation ministry disclosed on Saturday that the final message from the pilot of the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad was 'Mayday'. The flight had ascended to 650 feet before it began to descend.

During a press conference in Delhi, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Samir Kumar Sinha, shared that the flight data recorder of the crashed aircraft had been recovered.

On June 12th, around 2 PM, the authorities were alerted about the crash of the plane en route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick London. Detailed information was swiftly obtained through ATC Ahmedabad, Sinha informed the reporters.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu was also present during the briefing. The flight, identified as AIC 171, carried a total of 242 individuals, including 230 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 crew members.

Sinha detailed the sequence of events leading to the Air India plane crash: 'The aircraft took off at 1:39 PM and shortly after reaching a height of approximately 650 feet, it began to descend. At 1:39 PM, the pilot communicated to Ahmedabad ATC that it was a Mayday situation, indicating a full emergency.'

He further explained that the plane lost altitude after surpassing the 650-feet mark. 'The AIC 171 plane, with 242 passengers on board, took off at 1:39 PM. After a brief period, upon reaching 650 feet, it started descending, losing altitude,' Sinha stated.

Before the tragic incident, the aircraft had flown the Paris-Delhi-Ahmedabad route without any issues. The runway was closed at 2:30 PM following the crash, and after adhering to all necessary protocols, it was reopened for limited flights at 5 PM, according to Sinha.
