Grieving families are awaiting updates following one of the deadliest air disasters in recent history, as the death toll from the Indian passenger jet crash has reached 279. The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner issued a distress call before crashing and bursting into flames in Ahmedabad.

On June 14, authorities confirmed that 279 bodies have been recovered from the crash site, marking it as one of the worst plane tragedies of the 21st century. Out of the 242 passengers and crew on board, only one person survived the crash.

Relatives of the victims are providing DNA samples for identification, and the final casualty count will be determined once the identification process is complete. The passengers on the flight included individuals from India, the UK, Portugal, Canada, and the crew members.

The lone survivor, Mr. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, shared his miraculous survival story, while authorities continue to search for the second black box to understand the cause of the crash. Boeing has pledged support to Air India as investigations into the incident continue.
