The Punjab home department in Lahore has initiated plans to ensure peace in the province during Muharram ul Haram by taking various security measures.

An e-portal has been set up and letters have been sent to key officials for coordination and data update regarding majalis and processions to be held during the month by June 17. This includes gagging and banning orders, check-lists, control rooms, focal persons, and identifying flash points.

As Muharram is expected to begin around June 26, the home department has instructed the IGP to provide the army and Rangers troops deployment requirements for each district, along with dates. They have also requested details on mobile jamming needs with specific locations and durations.

District Commissioners (DCs) have been tasked with organizing meetings of district intelligence committees (DICs) to plan security measures and necessary arrangements for Muharram. They are also required to develop contingency plans, update lists of speakers to be restricted, and prevent loudspeaker misuse.

Commissioners and Regional Police Officers (RPOs) have been directed to ensure the separation of non-Shia gatherings from Ahl-e-Tashee processions to avoid any potential law and order disturbances.

During the first to 10th of Muharram, officials are urged to enhance security for non-Ahl-e-Tashee gatherings. The Special Branch additional IG has been reminded to strictly enforce the ban on loudspeakers as per the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act 2015.

The Auqaf and religious affairs department has been asked to coordinate with the Ittehad Bainul Muslimeen (IBM) committee members and arrange a meeting.

Home Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, in his first meeting, highlighted that maintaining law and order in Punjab is the top priority. He emphasized the active mobilization of law enforcement agencies to ensure public safety with zero tolerance for any negligence.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Home Fazal ur Rehman, along with additional and deputy secretaries from all department wings.
