On Thursday, June 12, 2025, a distressed vessel off the coast of Languyan, Tawi-Tawi was the site of a successful rescue operation that saved up to 90 passengers.

The Western Mindanao Naval Command (WMNC) reported that the vessel, which had set sail from Pangutaran, Sulu and was heading towards Sibutu, Tawi-Tawi, experienced engine trouble.

The BRP General Mariano Alvarez (PS176) promptly went to the vessel's last known location near Languyan Island to rescue the passengers.

According to WMNC, the Navy ship towed the motor launch to Chinese Pier in Bongao, where it was safely moored without any further issues.

This successful maritime rescue operation highlights the Philippine Navy's commitment to saving lives at sea and ensuring the safety of vessels in the Western Mindanao area of responsibility.
