Viktor Gyokeres has reportedly decided against moving to Manchester United and is now focused on securing a transfer to Arsenal, his dream club in the Premier League.
The Sporting striker had an impressive record in 2024 with 52 club goals and has continued his form this year with 27 goals, aiming to follow in the footsteps of Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe.
Although he is expected to leave Sporting this summer, his relationship with the club has soured due to conflicting reports on his release clause.
Originally, Gyokeres had an £84 million release clause, but it was believed that he had an agreement to leave for around £59 million. However, Sporting now demands closer to £70 million, causing frustration for the player.
Sporting president Frederico Varandas clarified the situation, mentioning that an agreement was made not to demand the release clause and to consider a reasonable transfer fee. However, recent developments have led to confusion and disagreements.
Portuguese newspaper Record reported that Gyokeres has informed Manchester United that he is no longer interested in joining the club. He is reportedly dissatisfied with the financial terms and sees the move as a greater sporting risk, especially with Sporting missing out on European football next season.
As a result, Gyokeres has closed the door on a potential move to Manchester United and is now eyeing a transfer to Arsenal, his preferred destination.
While Arsenal may have other striker targets like Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, Gyokeres remains a strong second choice for the Gunners.
