Melbourne Man Describes Tense Situation in Jerusalem

Bren Carlill, a Melbourne resident currently in Jerusalem, shared his experience from inside his hotel, describing the atmosphere as tense. He and fellow Australian travelers had to seek refuge in the hotel's bomb shelter twice overnight when red alert sirens blared.

Carlill mentioned that they spent 30 to 60 minutes in the shelter each time and have refrained from venturing outside the hotel due to the ongoing situation. He observed that the city appeared deserted, with minimal activity except for a few joggers passing by.

Despite being surrounded by other tourists, Carlill mentioned that he had been in touch with Israeli friends he knew from his time living there. He noted a mix of weariness and resilience among the locals, who have grown accustomed to such situations but never fully acclimate to them.

Inside the bomb shelter, Carlill described a sense of camaraderie rather than fear or panic. The group tried to lighten the mood by sharing a packet of Tim Tams, bringing a touch of humor to the tense environment.
