A resident of Merseyside appeared in court this morning in connection with the fatal shootings of two Scottish men outside Monaghans Bar in Fuengirola last month. The 44-year-old individual, whose identity was not disclosed by authorities, was apprehended on Friday and brought before Westminster Magistrates Court on Saturday, June 14. The court session marked the beginning of extradition proceedings to Spain, and the defendant was remanded in custody for a future court appearance. The arrest was made in Liverpool by Merseyside Police following an international arrest warrant issued by Spanish authorities.
The victims, identified as Scots Eddie Lyons Junior and Ross Monaghan, lost their lives when a gunman opened fire outside Monaghans Bar in Fuengirola, Malaga on May 31. The incident occurred around 11pm as a masked assailant alighted from a car parked outside the bar and shot the two men before fleeing the scene in the vehicle. Both victims succumbed to their injuries on-site.
Both individuals had ties to the Lyons family, a prominent organized crime syndicate based in western Scotland. Reports indicate that the victims were watching the Champions League final with friends when they were attacked on the beachfront of the Andalusian town.
According to a statement from Police Scotland, the shooting incident in Fuengirola does not appear to be linked to ongoing criminal activities involving rival groups in Scotland. The Scottish authorities are collaborating with Spanish police in the investigation, offering insights into the backgrounds of the deceased individuals. However, there is no indication that the shooting was orchestrated in Scotland.
