South Africa beat Australia by five wickets in the World Test Championship final to end their long wait for a major global title.

South Africa secured a major global title by defeating Australia by five wickets in the World Test Championship final at Lord's. The Proteas resumed their second innings needing 69 runs to seal victory on day four.

Captain Pat Cummins of Australia made an early breakthrough by dismissing Temba Bavuma for 66. Mitchell Starc further added pressure by bowling Tristan Stubbs, bringing South Africa closer to victory.

Aiden Markram's brilliant 136 put South Africa on the brink of victory. Despite missing out on hitting the winning runs, Markram's contribution was crucial. David Bedingham and Kyle Verreynne successfully guided South Africa to victory, with Verreynne sealing the win with a drive through the covers off Starc.

South Africa's run chase was the second-highest in Test cricket at Lord's, only behind West Indies' pursuit of 342 in 1984. They now join New Zealand and Australia as World Test champions.
