Urgent safety checks are being carried out for dozens of Boeing 787 jets in the wake of the Air India crash.

Following the tragic Air India crash, India's aviation regulator has initiated urgent safety checks for numerous Boeing 787 jets to ensure passenger safety. The crash resulted in the loss of all but one of the 242 individuals on board.

Under the guidance of the aviation regulator, Air India has already completed one-time inspections on nine of its Dreamliner jets, with 24 more aircraft awaiting inspection, as reported by the carrier on Saturday.

As the 787 jets return to India, these checks are being conducted to ensure they are safe for their upcoming flights. Air India has cautioned that these inspections may lead to longer turnaround times and potential delays on specific long-haul routes.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India's aviation regulator, has mandated maintenance checks on all of Air India's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners that are equipped with General Electric's GEnx engines.
