Amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, several Israeli officials and politicians have not ruled out the idea of assassinating Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
A top Israeli official mentioned to the Wall Street Journal that killing the supreme leader was 'not off limits' and that the conflict would only end if Iran dismantles its nuclear program voluntarily or if Israel makes it impossible for Tehran to rebuild it.
Channel 12 also reported a top Israeli political source stating that while the possibility is not ruled out, it depends on various factors.
This stance may suggest that Israel is considering eliminating Iran's entire leadership and dismantling the theocratic regime.
Under Operation Rising Lion, Israel has already conducted initial strikes that targeted Iran's top military officer, the head of the Revolutionary Guards Corps, the air force chief, and a former national security chief.
The Israeli official mentioned by the WSJ also claimed that strikes have damaged the heavily fortified Natanz enrichment facility, leading to structural collapse, and that Israel has eliminated at least nine nuclear scientists from Iran.
Recent reports indicate additional Israeli strikes on Iran, including targeting the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Tehran and an oil depot.
Meanwhile, Khamenei has vowed retaliation, stating that Iran will not allow Israel to escape consequences for their actions.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has raised international concerns, particularly regarding the targeting of political leaders and the risks posed to deeply buried nuclear facilities. Despite doubts about Israel's ability to completely dismantle Iran's nuclear program, an official has suggested that the recent strikes have significantly hindered Iran's capabilities.
