An Air India flight has returned to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff due to a midair technical issue

An Air India flight had to return to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff due to a midair technical issue. This incident comes just days after another Air India flight crashed, resulting in the loss of at least 270 lives.

Air India stated that the New Delhi-bound aircraft landed safely in Hong Kong and is currently undergoing precautionary checks. The Airport Authority in Hong Kong confirmed that flight AI315 returned to the city's airport around 1 p.m.

The aircraft involved in this incident was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the same model as the flight that crashed in Ahmedabad, India. The crash claimed the lives of 241 passengers and at least 29 individuals on the ground, with only one passenger surviving.

Air India, the national carrier of India, has made alternative arrangements to ensure that affected passengers reach their destination at the earliest possible time.

Roy reported from New Delhi, with additional contributions from Associated Press video journalist Alice Fung in Hong Kong.
