Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries are meeting in Kananaskis for the 51st G7 Summit, hosted by Canada. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the heads of state from non-G7 countries invited as guests. US President Donald Trump is also in attendance, marking his second time at the Summit after walking out in 2018.

Trump's national security advisor, John Bolton, had previously highlighted Trump's stance on not being the 'bank' for other countries. This year's Summit will not end with a joint statement or communique.

Agenda of the Summit

The G7 Summit is taking place amidst the Israel-Iran conflict and after Trump's tariffs, particularly those on China. The discussions are also expected to cover the rare earths deal between the US and China.

PM Modi's Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a three-nation tour, wrapping up his visit to Cyprus before heading to Canada for the G7 Summit. He aims to express gratitude to partner countries for their support in combating cross-border terrorism.

PM Modi anticipates engaging in discussions on global issues and priorities of the Global South at the Summit. He will also hold meetings with leaders from partner countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Following the Summit, PM Modi will visit Croatia, becoming the first Indian PM to do so. The meetings with Croatian President Zoran Milanovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic are expected to enhance cooperation in various mutual interest areas.
