A French woman has been arrested in Iceland after her husband and daughter were found stabbed to death in their hotel room.

A French woman has been taken into custody in Iceland following the tragic discovery of her husband and daughter who were found stabbed to death in their hotel room in Reykjavik.

The family, who held French citizenship but resided in Ireland, had traveled from Dublin to the Icelandic capital on June 7th. They had made arrangements to return home on June 14th, the same day the bodies were found.

Police were alerted at 7:14 am local time by a hotel staff member in downtown Reykjavik, near the harbor, reporting an unspecified incident of a serious nature. The incident took place at the Edition Hotel in Reykjavik, where the bodies of the father and daughter were discovered on the fourth floor, both having suffered stab wounds.

The woman in her late 50s, who was also found with stab wounds, was taken to Landspitali University Hospital for treatment. She appeared in Reykjavik District Court and has been detained until June 20th, with the possibility of an extension for another week pending further court proceedings. Authorities have not disclosed any potential charges at this early stage of the investigation.

Upon the discovery of the deceased family members, the French Embassy was notified, while the Irish consulate has not been contacted. An Garda Síochána has declined to comment on the ongoing criminal investigation in Iceland.
