Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the significance of the blue economy as Pakistan's 'new economic frontier' during the soft launch of the Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC 2025). He commended the Navy for its role in national defense and regional security, emphasizing Pakistan's commitment to international peace and maritime law.

PM Shehbaz expressed optimism about unlocking the vast potential of the blue economy, stating that even a fraction of its resources could be transformative for the country. With Pakistan's strategic location and extensive coastline, he underscored the trillion-dollar opportunity presented by the global blue economy.

He urged the nation to draw inspiration from success stories like Japan and emphasized the need for resilience, innovation, and strategic investments in the maritime sector. PM Shehbaz called for public-private sector synergy to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth, positioning Pakistan as a regional maritime hub.

Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid outlined the government's strategic roadmap for the sector, introducing the 'Maritime at 100' Vision to grow the maritime industry into a $100 billion economic force by 2047. He highlighted key economic drivers such as the fisheries industry and the Gaddani Ship Recycling Yard, emphasizing Pakistan's potential as a maritime powerhouse.

The Minister announced upcoming policy frameworks and initiatives to support sector growth, including the establishment of a Maritime Chamber of Commerce and Industry, federal investments in ship recycling and fleet expansion, and infrastructure development projects to enhance trade and connectivity.
