More clubs are set to be added to the division United Women play league football in.

Plans are underway to expand the league in which United Women compete, with more clubs being added to the division. Despite the increase in size, the format of the league will remain the same, with each team playing against each other both at home and away throughout the season. Qualification for the Champions League will continue to be reserved for the top three finishers.

Manchester United finished the recent 2024/25 season in third place and will participate in the next edition of the prestigious European competition starting from the second qualifying round. The draw for this round is scheduled to take place later this month.

Starting from the 2026/27 season, the team that finishes at the bottom of the Women's Super League (WSL) will face automatic relegation, while the champions of the WSL 2 will be promoted to the top tier.

Additionally, a promotion/relegation play-off is set to be introduced between the 13th-placed team in the first division and the runners-up in the second division. This playoff will determine which club earns the top-flight spot for the following season.

These proposed changes are currently pending approval by The FA Board.
