A government-appointed high-level committee convened to investigate the recent Ahmedabad plane crash has begun deliberating on potential factors that may have contributed to the tragic incident, marking it as one of the worst air disasters in the country in recent years.

Chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, the committee gathered input from various stakeholders to analyze the possible causes of the crash and discuss preventive measures to avert similar accidents in the future.

During its inaugural meeting, the focus of the panel was to identify the root causes of the crash and develop Standard Operating Procedures to minimize the likelihood of such incidents occurring again.

While the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting a separate technical investigation into the crash, the high-level committee is focusing on extracting key lessons and formulating policy-oriented strategies for future safety measures.

Attendees at the meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Home Ministry, Indian Air Force, Intelligence Bureau, Gujarat government, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, among others.

The committee aims to finalize its report within a three-month timeframe, with the objective of providing comprehensive recommendations for enhanced air safety protocols.

The recovery of the black box and Cockpit Voice Recorder from the wreckage of Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad to London, is expected to provide critical insights into the circumstances leading up to the tragic accident that claimed the lives of all but one of the 242 individuals on board.
