Other participants in the Global March to Gaza have also been detained, the statement claimed.

Irish TD Paul Murphy has once again been detained by Egyptian authorities and had his passport confiscated. Murphy, along with thousands of others, traveled to Egypt to participate in demonstrations at the border with Palestine and join the Global March for Gaza. Unfortunately, Egyptian officials have detained numerous individuals in recent days.

Murphy's partner, People Before Profit councillor Jess Spear, revealed that Murphy visited a Cairo police station on the advice of the Irish embassy to retrieve his phone after it was confiscated during a previous detention on Friday. Despite being released late on Friday at Cairo Airport, Murphy found himself back at the station today, expressing concerns that his passport had been taken again and that he was not allowed to leave.

In a statement from People Before Profit, it was mentioned that Murphy had interacted with the police, secret police, and an interpreter who claimed they were searching for his phone. Despite attempting to depart, Murphy was prevented from doing so by the authorities. The statement also highlighted that other participants in the Global March to Gaza had also been detained.

Spear has urged Tánaiste Simon Harris to urgently intervene with the Egyptian authorities on behalf of Murphy and the other individuals facing detention.
