Recently, eight drivers were apprehended for offering unauthorized rides to two popular tourist destinations in Singapore - the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, as well as Gardens by the Bay.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) revealed that these arrests took place in a joint operation with the Singapore Tourism Board last week. Following the enforcement, the drivers had their foreign-registered vehicles confiscated, as stated in an announcement on LTA's Facebook page. Notably, the drivers were not engaged in unlicensed tourist guiding activities, clarified the authority.

LTA emphasized its commitment to cracking down on drivers who engage in illegal point-to-point services using vehicles lacking public service vehicle licenses. Responding to inquiries from CNA, it highlighted that this operation marked the first collaborative effort with the tourism board.

Since 2022, LTA has apprehended 68 drivers for providing illegal cross-border passenger transport services with foreign-registered vehicles, resulting in the impoundment of all their vehicles.
