US President Donald Trump has said he did not plan to call Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2024, after a weekend shooting left one of the state's Democratic politicians dead and another injured.

President Donald Trump has stated that he has no intention of contacting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2024, following a shooting incident over the weekend that resulted in the death of one Democratic politician and the injury of another.

President Trump, a Republican, released a statement condemning the 'horrific violence' that occurred in the United States on Saturday. However, he has chosen not to extend any words of reconciliation to Governor Walz as he oversees the state's response to the tragedy.

Minnesota Governor Walz was the running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris last year.

During a press briefing on Air Force One returning from a G7 leaders meeting in Canada, President Trump referred to Governor Walz as 'whacked out' and stated, 'I'm not calling him. Why would I call him? The guy doesn't have a clue. He's a mess. So I could be nice and call him, but why waste time?'

Melissa Hortman, the leading Democrat in the Minnesota House, and her husband, Mark, were fatally shot in their Brooklyn Park home on Saturday. Another Democrat, Senator John Hoffman, and his wife Yvette were also shot and injured in their Champlin residence.

The suspect, Vance Boelter, 57, embarked on a planned killing spree, targeting the homes of at least four state politicians, according to federal authorities. Boelter is facing state and federal murder charges after being apprehended on Sunday night following an extensive two-day manhunt, the largest in the state's history.

The series of attacks in Minnesota began at 2 am on Saturday when a gunman wearing a police-style tactical vest and a 'hyper realistic silicone mask' knocked on the Hoffmans' door in Champlin, identified himself as a police officer, and proceeded to shoot the couple multiple times, as per prosecutors.

The suspect then proceeded to the residence of another state politician in Maple Grove, ringing the doorbell at 2:24 am. The official, who was not named by prosecutors, was not at home at the time.

Boelter also visited the home of a state senator in New Hope, with an officer dispatched to conduct a wellness check after learning about the Hoffman shooting. The officer mistook Boelter, who was parked outside, for another police officer and pulled up alongside him. By the time additional officers arrived, the suspect had already left.

Subsequently, police went to the Hortmans' residence in Brooklyn Park as a precaution. Upon arrival, officers witnessed the suspect shooting Mark Hortman through an open door at around 3:35 am. An exchange of gunfire ensued before the suspect fled on foot through the backdoor. Melissa Hortman was found deceased inside the house.
