Ange chalks up a win of sorts as Kemi’s last-minute substitute races downhill through his pet subjects

Concerns were raised for Alex Burghart when he filled in for Kemi Badenoch at PMQs and was outshone by Angela Rayner. This time, Chris Philp took over and faced the challenge with little preparation. Philp, known for his loyalty, focused on grooming gangs and immigrants, echoing previous statements by Badenoch. However, his performance was lackluster compared to Rayner's confident and engaging demeanor.

Keir Starmer's absence allowed him to avoid tough questions and controversies, giving Rayner the opportunity to shine. Philp's repetitive questions and shaky delivery failed to impress, as he struggled to make an impact. Despite his efforts, it was clear that Rayner's authenticity and connection with the audience won the day.

Philp's attempt to pivot to the topic of illegal immigrants and Rwanda fell flat, as his arguments lacked depth and coherence. Labour's Sarah Champion's call for a more constructive approach to addressing grooming gangs highlighted the need for genuine solutions rather than political point scoring.
