Following a phone call with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that he played a pivotal role in preventing a war between India and Pakistan. The conversation took place on June 18, 2025.

Speaking to reporters, President Trump praised Mr. Modi as 'a fantastic man' and expressed confidence in the potential for a trade deal between the two countries. He emphasized his role in halting the conflict, stating, 'I stopped the war between Pakistan and India.' President Trump also highlighted the importance of the trade deal with India.

During a meeting with Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir at the White House on the same day, President Trump credited Munir for his role in preventing the conflict from escalating. He acknowledged the efforts of both Pakistan and India in averting a potential crisis between two nuclear-armed nations.

In a phone call with Mr. Trump on June 17, 2025, Mr. Modi emphasized India's stance on not accepting mediation and highlighted that discussions between the Indian and Pakistani militaries were initiated at Pakistan's request. The two countries reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after a series of cross-border drone and missile strikes.

Indian government sources in New Delhi confirmed that the Directors General of Military Operations of both countries agreed to cease all military actions on land, air, and sea without the involvement of any third party. President Trump had previously claimed on social media that he mediated talks between India and Pakistan, leading to a 'full and immediate' ceasefire.

President Trump has reiterated his involvement in resolving tensions between India and Pakistan on multiple occasions, emphasizing the potential for increased trade with both nations as an incentive for peace.
