The Foreign Office clarified that Iran has not requested any military assistance from Pakistan or asked to relocate Iranian refugees to Pakistani territory amidst escalating tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv. During the weekly press briefing, FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan confirmed that there have been no formal requests for defense cooperation or refugee support from Iran. He emphasized that no specific military aid request has been received and there has been no communication regarding hosting Iranian refugees in Pakistan.
Khan expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by Iranian authorities in facilitating the return of around 3,000 Pakistani nationals from Iran in recent weeks. He commended the efforts of Pakistani consulates in Zahedan and Mashhad, as well as the embassy in Tehran, in assisting the Pakistani community in Iran. The spokesperson highlighted that anyone wishing to return to Pakistan is being supported.
Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, Khan voiced serious concerns about the broader regional implications of the conflict. He emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to halt Israeli aggression, reiterating Pakistan's condemnation of Israeli actions and its unwavering support for Iran.
Regarding recent Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, Khan denounced them as a violation of international laws and IAEA safeguards. He also addressed US President Donald Trump's comments during a meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic courtesy and highlighting Pakistan's historical ties with Iran.
The FO spokesperson dismissed speculation about the US seeking Pakistan's assistance in the Middle East, clarifying that there is no special favor being requested or extended. He emphasized the broad relationship between Pakistan and the US based on mutual cooperation and friendship.
In a separate statement, the Foreign Office condemned recent regulatory changes by India in the Ladakh region, calling them a violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan urged India to reverse these measures and supported efforts for a negotiated resolution to regional disputes.
