Air India CEO Campbell Wilson confirmed that the crashed Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was ‘well-maintained’ with inspections showing no issues prior to the flight. Following the June 12 crash, Air India will temporarily reduce international operations by 15 per cent for enhanced safety checks.

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson reassured the public that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner involved in the crash was well-maintained, with no issues found during inspections prior to the flight. The last major inspection was completed in June 2023, and the next one was scheduled for December 2025.

Wilson stated that the right engine was overhauled in March 2025, while the left engine was inspected in April 2025. He emphasized that both the aircraft and engines were regularly monitored and showed no problems before the tragic incident.

As a precautionary measure, Air India will temporarily reduce its international wide-body fleet operations by 15% from June 20 until at least mid-July to conduct enhanced pre-flight safety checks on Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft.

Wilson mentioned that the airline will continue with enhanced safety checks on the Boeing 787 fleet and Boeing 777 aircraft for the time being to ensure passenger safety. This decision may impact flight schedules, but it will allow Air India to have more backup aircraft available for unforeseen circumstances.

The CEO expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the schedule changes and stated that the airline is committed to supporting the affected families and cooperating with authorities during the investigation into the crash.

The aviation industry is awaiting the official investigation report to determine the cause of the tragedy. Wilson extended condolences to those affected by the loss and reiterated the company's dedication to assisting the families involved.

The crash occurred on June 12 when an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London crashed into a hostel complex in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The incident resulted in the loss of 241 lives, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
