Deacon Blue icon James Prime has died after a short battle with cancer.

Deacon Blue's founding member and keyboardist, James Prime, has sadly passed away at the age of 64 after a brief struggle with cancer. Last week, he was hospitalized, leading to his withdrawal from the band's upcoming tour.

In a heartfelt social media post, the band announced the devastating news, expressing their gratitude for the support from fans. They confirmed that James had given his blessing for the tour to continue without him.

The band and James' family extended their thanks to the medical team caring for him during his illness.

James had been a part of Deacon Blue since the 1980s, contributing to hits like Dignity, Chocolate Girl, and Real Gone Kid. The band has seen lineup changes over the years but has continued making music together since regrouping in 1999 after a break in 1994.
