PJ (John) Gavin, of Gortaruaun, Belcarra, Castlebar, and late of Leitir, Islandeady, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, in the intensive care unit at the Galway Clinic. He faced a short illness with great dignity, surrounded by his loving family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Martin and Margaret Gavin, as well as his infant sister, Catherine. PJ is deeply mourned by his heartbroken family, including his wife Eileen (née O’Donnell), daughters Zara and Jenny, son James, grandsons Senan and Leo, father-in-law Jim, mother-in-law Maura, sisters Noreen, Eileen, Mary, Teresa, Anne, Pauline, Margaret, and Joan, brothers James and Martin, as well as other relatives and friends.

His remains will be in Belcarra Community Centre on Friday, June 20, from 4pm, with removal at 6.30pm to his residence. The funeral cortege will proceed to St. Anne’s Church, Belcarra on Saturday, June 21, for Requiem Mass at 11a.m. PJ will be laid to rest at Guesdian Cemetery, Belcarra. The family requests privacy at this time, with no flowers and donations to the Irish Lung Fibrosis Association if desired.
