Officials tell Reuters bombers moving to Pacific Island but unclear whether deployment tied to Middle East tensions

The United States is relocating B-2 bombers to the Pacific island of Guam, according to two US officials who spoke to Reuters on Saturday. This move comes as Donald Trump deliberates on whether the US should participate in Israel's attacks on Iran.

It remains uncertain if the deployment of the bombers is directly linked to the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The B-2 aircraft can be armed with the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a 30,000lb weapon designed to target deeply buried facilities. Experts suggest that this weapon could potentially be used to strike Iran's nuclear facilities, including Fordow.

The officials, who chose to remain anonymous, did not provide additional information. One official mentioned that there have been no specific orders yet to move the bombers beyond Guam. The exact number of B-2 bombers being relocated was not disclosed.

The Pentagon has not issued a response to requests for comments regarding this matter.

Observers and officials are closely monitoring whether the B-2 bombers will be further deployed to a US-British military base on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia. Analysts believe that Diego Garcia's strategic location makes it an ideal base for operations in the Middle East.

Until last month, the United States had B-2 bombers stationed on Diego Garcia, which were subsequently replaced by B-52 bombers.

Israel announced on Saturday that it had eliminated a senior Iranian commander in the ongoing air conflict between the two nations. In response, Tehran stated that it would not engage in negotiations regarding its nuclear program while facing threats.

Israel claims that Iran was close to developing nuclear weapons, while Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are solely for peaceful purposes.

Trump has indicated that he will take up to two weeks to make a decision on whether the US should support Israel in the conflict, allowing time to assess the situation and hope for a resolution without military intervention.

Earlier this week, Reuters reported the movement of numerous tanker aircraft to Europe and other military assets to the Middle East, along with an increase in fighter jet deployments.

Furthermore, an aircraft carrier in the Indo-Pacific region is currently en route to the Middle East.
