England Under-21s manager Lee Carsley believes that outsmarting Spain at Euro 2025 would boost the profile of British coaches.

England Under-21s manager Lee Carsley is determined to showcase the capabilities of British coaches by defeating Spain at Euro 2025.

The Young Lions boss is focused on improving the opportunities for homegrown coaches and believes that reaching the semi-finals will be a significant step in that direction.

They are set to face Spain in the quarter-finals in Trnava, Slovakia, on Saturday night as they aim to defend the title that Carsley led them to two years ago.

Spain's manager Santi Denia is eyeing a fifth consecutive semi-final appearance at the under-21 level, but Carsley sees this match as an opportunity to demonstrate the potential of British coaches.

"It's a great chance for us to enhance our reputation because I think that's a big thing," said Carsley, who recently extended his contract until Euro 2027.

"We talk about British coaches needing more opportunities, and when a British coach can outperform a Spanish coach and the team can excel, it not only benefits me but all British coaches in general.

"I'm not trying to be a lone representative, but it's crucial that when people watch the under-21s play, they are captivated by their style of play.

"We aim to deliver attacking and aggressive football because our past achievements have brought us to this point.

"If we aspire to win major tournaments, these are the moments where we must rise to the occasion."
